Gerardo Gutiérrez Candiani, head of the Federal authority for the development of special economic zones, commented that China has very important interests in infrastructure projects and is considering acting as integral administrator.
In April, China’s ambassador to Mexico, Qiu Xiaoqi, made a visit to Lázaro Cárdenas for an inside view on the progress of the project and held meetings with Candiani with whom he analyzed the results achieved in the Mexican EEZ with other countries.
In the same way, it indicated that the requirements and procedures were established so that the investors could obtain an authorization to conduct productive economic activities, like manufacture, agro-industry, processing, transformation and storage of raw materials and inputs, innovation, scientific and technological development.
The Special Economic Zone (ZEE) of Lázaro Cárdenas “La Unión”, is located in the limits of Michoacán with Guerrero, has about 8.483 hectares. Lázaro Cárdenas is the most important port in Mexico, with railway, road and airport access, as well as a productive vocation in steel, metalworking, automotive and agribusiness.
Chinese investors confirmed their interest in the special economic zones that Mexico is developing in the vicinity of the port of Lázaro Cárdenas, which they consider the gateway to the markets of Asia, Oceania and Central America.
