The Government of President Nayib Bukele initiated the national anti-COVID-19 vaccination plan a week ago. A pride for all Salvadorans, if one takes into account that the vast majority of nations have not yet managed to initiate this process to protect the health of their citizens.
To date, more than 6,000 people have been vaccinated, all of them work on the front line saving lives of patients infected with the virus, who are treated in the different establishments of the public health network.
In the region, El Salvador is one of the first to initiate the process to achieve immunization against the virus; Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Cuba, among others, are still waiting to obtain the first doses of the antidote.
The President’s wise decision to anticipate negotiations to purchase the vaccine, since June last year, has allowed Salvadorans to be among the first to obtain vaccines.
Approximately 4.5 million Salvadorans will receive the vaccine. For this purpose, the authorities developed a gradual scheme segmented by priority groups among the population; first the front-line medical personnel attending the pandemic; then adults over 50 who suffer from chronic diseases; subsequently those over 18 years of age who do not suffer from comorbidity.
