Four water projects have become relevant this year due to the urgency derived from the droughts experienced, mainly, in the north of the country. The works seek to provide a solution to this shortage, which is why attention has been paid to them in their development. These are the main ones.

El Cuchillo II Aqueduct
It is one of the works with the highest priority for the government due to the strong situation of water scarcity that Monterrey has experienced in recent months. The project consists of building the El Cuchillo II aqueduct that will bring water from the El Cuchillo dam to Monterrey.

The work will have a length of 100 kilometers and will provide 5,000 liters per second, guaranteeing water for the entire Metropolitan Area. The construction of the aqueduct will begin on September 2 and it is estimated that it will be completed in a period of eight to ten months.

Healthy Water for La Laguna
The objective of this project is to provide arsenic-free water to the urban area of ​​the Comarca Lagunera, in the states of Durango and Coahuila. For this work, according to the National Water Commission (Conagua), a global investment of more than 11,000 million pesos is projected.

Groundwater will be replaced by surface water from the Nazas River to supply drinking water to 1,600,000 people.
According to the recent visit made by the President of the Mexican Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, in Durango, the project will begin operations in 2023 and construction will begin on August 23.

Santa Maria Dam
This project aims to make better use of water, trigger agricultural development, generate clean electricity and promote tourism.

The work is in charge of Conagua, in collaboration with the Secretaries of the Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) and of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER).

The work began in 2015 with the government of Enrique Peña Nieto, but was stopped. It was resumed until 2020.
According to the Conagua report, the project is 45.9% complete and has a budget of 16,300 million pesos. Once completed, this work will be located on the Baluarte River in the municipality of El Rosario.

Lake Texcoco Ecological Park
It is a project which seeks the hydrological and social recovery of Lake Texcoco, will have a total investment of 4,566 million pesos and its works are planned to end in 2023.

The work consists of the water and ecological recovery of more than 14,000 hectares of land, creating a development of the area towards a more sustainable approach. Environmental restoration work, conservation and maintenance work will be carried out in the body of water, which will allow the recovery of lagoons and wetlands, as well as hydrological regulation.
